Motorola buy Asian music download service Soundbuzz
Motorola has opened up its corporate wallet (surely looking a little thin by now) and shelled out an unnamed sum for Asian music download provider Soundbuzz; it intends to use the service to extend the existing MotoMusic mobile download system out of Greater China and into India and Southeast Asia. Motorola now has a presence in 13 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, licenses with Sony BMG, EMI, Warner Music International, Universal Music Group and over 45 independent record labels. "With the resources of Motorola, we are now able to immediately expand the digital music offerings available to our customers – and Motorola’s rapidly growing installed base of handsets throughout the region"Sudhanshu Sarronwala, CEO, Soundbuzz
Soundbuzz will apparently continue to base its headquarters in Singapore, together with Mumbai and Sydney offices; it is uncertain whether Motorola intend to subsume the brand into MotoMusic or run it as a separate entity.
